REGS 22 AUG 06

SECTION 1.

[26633]

No. 1.

590

Question asked in the House of Commons, August 2, 1906.

Mr. T. L. Corbett,-To ask the Secretary of State for India what steps he has taken, or intends taking, to give effect to the unanimous vote of the House of Commons against the opium traffic between India and China.

Answer,

I would refer the honourable Member to the answer I gave to a similar question in this House on the 17th July as to the action which His Majesty's Government proposes to take in the matter—namely, first to ascertain exactly what the proposals and inclinations of the Chinese Government are, and, secondly, to see whether they can in some way meet those views.
